About Me - Psychotherapist and EMDR Practitioner

Hi, I'm Jo - a keen jigsaw puzzler, dog owner, former globe-trotter, and psychotherapist based in Surrey.

I'm a BACP-accredited psychotherapist and EMDR practitioner. I came to this work through the change I experienced in my own therapy.

I think of therapy a bit like a car journey - you're in charge, driving, but I'm the co-pilot.

When I first qualified, I worked at the Priory for a few years. Some clients had great insight and would say, “I know all of this, Jo - why can’t I change it?” I asked colleagues what they were doing differently - and they said EMDR. So, as soon as I could, I trained in it, and I haven't looked back.

Not all my clients want EMDR, and that's fine - we can come at things from different angles. But I’ve found it one of the most effective ways to get to the underlying drivers of emotional distress, especially if you’ve had therapy before but are still struggling to shift things.

I am a little bit nerdy about what works best in therapy - especially EMDR - and I bring that into my work.

Before becoming a therapist…

…I worked in international aid in government and non-profits at a senior level, and before that in the financial sector. I spent years living and working in sub-Saharan Africa, and have also lived in Europe and South-East Asia.

I loved that work, but eventually wanted something with a more direct connection with people, fewer meetings, and less jet lag.

That experience has made me curious about people and how they experience the world. I work with people from all backgrounds, cultures, and identities, and I am LGBTQ+ inclusive.
