Coaching for Therapists : Build a Sustainable Practice
I help therapists shape their practice so it actually works - financially, practically, and day to day.
You’ve probably been on a plane and heard the instruction to put your own oxygen mask on before helping anyone else. I am that pilot for your therapy practice.
You're probably excellent at helping other people, but maybe you're quietly struggling in your own working life. Not earning enough, too full to feel sustainable, or somewhere in between - knowing something needs to change but not sure where to start.
I've been there — overfull and overwhelmed, underpaid and underbooked — wondering if there was a better way.
This isn’t therapy, and it isn’t supervision. It’s space to think clearly about your practice and make decisions that actually move things forward.
I don’t know about you, but my therapy training didn’t have a module on how to run a therapy business. Most therapists qualify, look at local listings, and charge roughly what everyone else is charging (maybe a bit lower, as you’re newly qualified, right?)
Then we write a BACP or Psychology Today profile and accept all issues and presentations. From there, one of two things usually happens. You either end up overfull, seeing a wide range of clients and heading towards burnout, or you struggle to fill your practice at all. A lot of that comes down to luck.
Does any of this sound familiar?
Your listing or website says “experienced and qualified” - but so does everyone else’s, and it’s not bringing in the clients you most enjoy working with, or serve best.
You know you probably need a niche, but you’re worried it will restrict who comes to see you, and you’re not sure what that looks like or where to start.
You have a sense of where you want to get to, or at least what you want to move away from, but you need help to clarify it.
You might also be trying to work out the practical side of running a practice: which systems to use, how to handle enquiries and intro calls, how to build a referral network, or whether working with insurance actually makes sense for you.
If this is you, you’re not alone: I started my therapy practice with a mix of private practice and agency work. I went from not having enough clients to being completely full and exhausted, thinking “there must be a better way”. Now I work with a more balanced client load, with the kinds of clients I love.
Coaching with me is for you if:
You want to build a thoughtful practice that meets your needs as well as your clients’.
You want to move away from “as many clients as possible” to the right number of clients.
You want to earn a sustainable living from your work, without burning out.
You want to attract more of the clients you actually want to work with, and do the work you do best.
You’re open to changing how your practice is set up, even if that feels uncomfortable.
This is not for you if:
You want to continue seeing very high volumes of clients, for example through platforms like BetterHelp.
You’re looking for quick fixes or generic “grow your business” strategies, or expecting overnight change. There may be some growing pains.
You don’t want to change your fees, structure, or how you work (if you’ve read this far, this is probably not you).
You’re looking for someone to focus heavily on social media or algorithms.
